The Wonders that a medicated steam bath can do

A medicated steam bath not only soothes your nerves but also relaxes your mind. Its medical advantages include curbing respiratory problems like sinusitis and asthma along with expelling toxins and uric acid from the body. Nowadays, it is also being used to remove dead skin.

So, if you want to keep yourself healthy from the inside as well, the medicated steam bath is what you need. In Ayurveda, several oils, leaves, and spices are mentioned as remedies for health problems. A medicated bath using different types of ayurvedic oils, spices, flower petals and decoctions is highly beneficial. In conversation with Patrika Plush Dr. Rekha Sharma, a city-based Ayurveda expert, shared how an array of herbs and oils can enhance your bathing experience while improving your health quotient.



Flower petals
Flowers of lemongrass, basil, lavender, rosemary, jasmine, mogra, lotus, eucalyptus, and menthol can be infused in hot water to take steam. While their whiff provides a luxurious experience, their aroma adds to the health benefits.

Benefits: Fragrance of these leaves make you energetic and provide a mental relief. It makes your skin glow and reduces the signs of aging.



Aromatic oil

Not just leaves but you can also use 4-5 drops of oil extracted from Lemongrass, Basil, Lavender, Rosemary, Jasmine, Mogra, Lotus, Eucalyptus and Menthol and add to hot water for a healthy steam bath.

Benefits: The use of aromatic oils reduce stress, restlessness, headache, insomnia and keep you energized. A bath infused with these is known to eliminate pneumatic bacteria and help cure cold, cough, pneumonia and influenza. Steam Bath using aromatic oils also solve the problem of a sore throat as it expels the phlegm.




Spices
Indian spices have great potential to fight health problems. Putting spices like carom seeds, cinnamon or small chunks of ginger in hot water can make the steam bath even more potent.

Benefits: Aromatic spices like ginger and seeds with medicinal properties will help to cure respiratory diseases and headache.




Decoctions
A decoctions infused steam bath is mainly used to cure joint problems and muscle stiffness. A decoction is the combination of root, bark, and rhizomes of medicinal plants in a steam bath.
